Bible Doctrines – of the Holy Spirit #5-Bible Doctrine

  1. The Doctrines of the Holy Spirit is one of the Most important doctrines in the Word of God and is one of the foremost truths of redemption
  2. From Genesis to Revelation, relative to both Creation and Redemption, the Holy Spirit is seen in operation.
  3.    The Holy Spirit is not to be looked upon as merely as an influence.
  4. The Holy Spirit is spoken of as being “the Sprit of God.”
  5. The Holy Spirit s symbolized as being Wind, water, fire, oil a seal or other important objects.
  6. The Holy Spirit’s work seems to be so Mystical, secret and invisible.

THERE ARE FOUR (4) REASONS WHY THE BELIEVER SHOULD NOT CONSIDER THE HOLY SPIRIT AS A MERE INFLUENCE OR IMPERSONAL FORCE

  1. Its contrary to the Teachings of the scripture
  2. It will hinder worship
  3. It will hinder proper reverence.
  4. It will hinder relationship

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS REVEALED AS A PERSON


  1. The Holy spirit is referred to with personal pronouns which are: He, Him, Himself
  2.  The Holy Spirit is spoken of as having personal qualities, which are: Mind, will, Emotions.
  3. The Holy Spirit is spoken of under Personal titles, which are: The Comforter, the Advocate.

THE HOLY SPIRIT PERFORMS PERSONAL ACTS. WHICH ARE:

  1. The Spirit Works
  2. The Spirit Searches
  3. The Spirit Speaks
  4. The Spirit Testifies
  5. The Spirit Bears Witness
  6. The Spirit Teaches
  7. The Spirit Instructs
  8. The Spirit Reproves
  9. The Spirit Prays and makes intercession
  10. The Spirit Leads
  11. The Spirit Guides the believer into all truth
  12. The Spirit Glorifies the Lord Jesus Christ
  13. The Spirit Brings about regeneration
  14. The Spirit Strives with Men.
  15. The Spirit Convicts men.
  16. The Spirit Sends Messengers from God.
  17. The Spirit Calls men into Ministry.
  18.  The Spirit Directs Men in the Service of Christ.
  19. The Spirit imparts spiritual gifts to the members of the body of Christ.

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS SPOKEN OF AS HAVING PERSONAL FEELINGS THAT COULDN’T BE ATTRIBUTED TO AS IMPERSONAL POWER.


  1.  He can be Grieved
  2.  He can be Insulted
  3.  He can be Lied to
  4.  He can be Blasphemed
  5.  He can be Resisted
  6.  He can be Tempted
  7.  He can be Vexed
  8.  He can be quenched.


THE DEITY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IS SEEN IN THE SCRIPTURES

THE DIVINE ASSOCIATION WITH THE FATHER AND THE SON SOME ILLUSTRATIONS ARE:

  1. The baptismal command of Jesus,
  2. In the trine name,
  3. In the teachings of Jesus

THE DIVINE DISTINCTION FROM THE FATHER AND THE SON ILLUSTRATED IN;


  1. The Father and the Holy Spirit send the Son. 
  2. The Spirit descends as a Dove.
  3. The Holy Spirit is partaker of the triune Name.
  4.  The Son prays to the Father to Send the Holy Spirit.

DIVINE ATTRIBUTES BEING ASCRIBED TO HIM


  1. The Holy Spirit is called God
  2. The Holy Spirit is Eternal
  3. The Holy Spirit is Omnipotent
  4. The Holy Spirit is Omniscient
  5. The Holy Spirit is Omnipresent
  6. The Holy Spirit is The source of life
  7. The Holy Spirit is The Spirit of Truth
  8. The Holy Spirit is The spirit of love
  9. The Holy Spirit is The Spirit of Holiness

THE WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THE OLD TESTAMENT


  1. Creation

THE WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN ISRAEL


  1. Joseph to interpret the dreams of Pharaoh
  2. Gave wisdom for the building of the tabernacle
  3. 70 elders prophesy in the camp of Israel
  4. Judges enabled by the Holy Spirit
  5. Joshua equipped by the Holy Spirit after Moses laid his hands on him.
  6. Spirit of the Lord on David as King, Prophet, Psalmist
  7. King Saul came under the power of the Holy Spirit and Prophesied
  8. Priests of the Lord had the Spirit on them
  9. All the Prophets had the Spirit in various measures.

THE WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THE NEW TESTAMENT


IN THE LIFE OF THE LORD JESUS

  1. He was born of the Spirit
  2. He was filled with the fullness of the Spirit
  3. He was led of the Spirit
  4. He was empowered of the Spirit
  5. He was Anointed by the Spirit
  6. He spoke and taught by the Spirit
  7. He healed the sick by the Spirit
  8. He cast out demons by the power of the Spirit
  9. He was justified by the Spirit
  10. He was offered up on Calvary by the eternal Spirit
  11. He was resurrected by the Spirit
  12. He gave commandments to the disciples by the Spirit
  13. He baptized and empowered the Church by the Spirit
  14. He directs and governs the Church also by the Spirit

THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THE LIFE OF THE BELIEVER


  1. The new birth is brought about by The Spirit
  2. The Spirit Indwells the believer’s spirit
  3. The Spirit Give assurance of salvation
  4. The Spirit fills the believer with himself.
  5. The Spirit By the baptism in the Sprit, enables the believer to speak in unknown language speaks to the believer.
  6. The Spirit Opens the believer understands.
  7. The Spirit Teaches the believer, and guides him ino all truth.
  8. The Spirit Imparts life.
  9. The Spirit Brings about renewal
  10. The Spirit Strengthens the believer’s inner being
  11. The Spirit enables the believer to pray.
  12. The Spirit enables the believer to worship in spirit and truth.
  13. The Spirit leads the believer.
  14. The Spirit enables the believer to put fleshly deeds to death.
  15. The Spirit Produces Christ-likeness in character and fruit in the believer’s life.
  16. The Spirit gives a calling to the believer for special services.
  17. The Spirit Guides believer into their ministry. 
  18. The Spirit Empower the believer to witness.
  19. The Spirit imparts spiritual gifts to the believers as he wills. 
  20. The Spirit will bring about the resurrection and immortality to the believers’ bodies in the last day.

THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THE LIFE OF THE CHURCH


  1. He formed the Church on the day of Pentecost into a corporate structure the Body of Christ.
  2. The Holy Spirit formed the Church to be the new and living temple of God.
  3. The Holy Spirit brings the gifs and graces to the members of the Church
  4. The Holy Spirits brings anointing, Illumination and direction to the Church.
  5. The Holy Spirit brings gifts and graces to the members of the Church.
  6. The Holy Spirit is the Agent of direction and government in the Church.

THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THE WORLD


  1. He convicts or brings understanding of Sin
  2. He convicts or brings understanding of Righteousness
  3. He convicts or brings understanding of judgement

SYMBOLS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT


  1. Water
  2. Fire.
  3. Wind or Breath.
  4. Dew.
  5. Oil.
  6. The Dove.
  7. The Seal.
  8. The still Small Voice. 
  9. The finger of God. 
  10. The first fruits.
