BB – 18 Using your Sword

Lesson #18

A good worker knows how to use his tools

2 Tim. 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

· The tool that we are using is very special, it is “God Breathed” in other word is has come from the very heart of God.

2 Timothy 3:16 (NKJV) 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, Special note* (1) The Bible says that God Himself inspires, the Bible.
· The word inspired means “God Breathed” which tells us that the Holy Spirit of God controlled men of God as they wrote – God was speaking through them.

1 Peter 1:22-2:3 Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, 23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever, 24 because "All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower falls away, 25 But the word of the Lord endures forever.” Now this is the word, which by the gospel was preached to you. 2:1 Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, 2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

· Being acquainted with the author makes his writing more understandable; Also you can become better acquainted with the author by reading his writings. Every time you open the Bible, expect to meet God there and always listen to hear Him Speak to you.

John 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

· The Heart attitude with which you approach the Scriptures is the key to the time being profitable and enjoyable; 1 Peter 2:1-2 for a list of things to get rid of as well as the attitude you must have.

1 Peter 2:1 Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking,

1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word that you may grow thereby

· Feed your mind on Garbage and you lose your love for God’s Word. If you aren’t hungry, ask God to show you why

Psalm 119:131 I opened my mouth and panted, For I longed for Your commandments.

· Believing is receiving. Don’t just come hungry come expecting to hear and receive from God.

Matthew 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.

Matthew 21:22 And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive."

Obedient and Submissive

· Be submissive; Approach the bible with an eagerness to obey.

Psalm 1:1-3 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. 3He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.

· Not having a heart set to obey is the reason why many do not understand and even misunderstand God’s Word.

Psalm 119:34 Give me understanding, and I shall keep Your law; Indeed, I shall observe it with my whole heart.

Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

· Obey what you understand is God’s will and He will give you more understanding.

Ephesians 1:18 (NKJV) 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,
Matthew 6:22-23 (NKJV) 22 "The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

Job 23:12 I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth More than my necessary food.

Reading Bible will not just Happen! Making Friends with God’s Word must be a goal for your life. You will not form a habit of reading the bible without planning. So decide to make plans and schedule when and how you ill accomplish your plan.

· A regular time must be set aside. We are not legalists because we take regular meals. We are encouraged to meditate regularly.

Daniel 6:10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days.

Mark 1:35 Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.

· You must, select a suitable place where you won‘t be disturbed.

Matthew 14:23 And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there.

Matthew 6:6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

· You must, select a good reading plan; one that you can keep under normal circumstances.

A good plan is to read God’s Word Daily. You can set some goals for reading the bible through in say a year. To reach your goal take the following steps. 1. Count the number of pages in your bible. 2. Then divide the number of pages by 365 the days in a year. 3. The result will be the number of pages you must read each day to reach your goal.

Example: My bible has 1370 pages. To read my bible completely through in 365 days I must read 3.7 or just under 4 pages a day. To read My bible through in 6 months I will read eight pages per day. In other words, I can read my bible through twice in a year if I read only eight pages per day.

· Read and Meditate on what you are reading, have a notebook to jot down thoughts that come to you as you read. Sometimes another version of the Bible can say it another way be of help to clarify a scripture text. If some text catches your attention wait awhile before you move on, wait on God to speak to you.

Psalm 119:18 Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous things from Your law.

Joshua 1:8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

Psalm 1:2-3 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. 3He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.
