Your Body Belongs to the Lord

1 Corinthians 6:12-20 (NKJV)
12 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
13 Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods, but God will destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
14 And God both raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by His power.
15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not!
16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For "the two," He says, "shall become one flesh."
17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.
18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.
19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.
A Body For The Lord
·         Religious beliefs, in times past have considered everything material including the physical body as evil.
·         Men must be free from Material influences in order to be spiritual, thus, the physical body has been submitted to self denial and harsh treatment to free men of its influence.
Colossians 2:21-23 (NKJV)
21 "Do not touch, do not taste, do not handle,"
22 which all concern things which perish with the using--according to the commandments and doctrines of men?
23 These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion, false humility, and neglect of the body, but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh.
·         Today we have a tendency to pander the body, to dress it up, beautify it; glorify it to the point of worship
Romans 8:23 (NKJV)
23 Not only that, but we also who have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.
·         We must honor God with our body as it is included in the plan of salvation
·         God made it and said it was very good.
Genesis 2:7 (NKJV)
7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

Genesis 1:31 (NKJV)
31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
·         Sin came to mar the beautiful handiwork of God – this did not alter the original intent purpose.
·         Salvation restored the ability to fulfill God’s original intentions.
·         Jesus forever stamped with approval and dignity “our lowly bodies.”
Philippians 3:21 (NKJV)
21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.
·         When Jesus finished his work and returned to the Father He didn’t leave his body behind.
·         On the third day reunited with his now glorified Body, went backs to heaven His new body with him
1 Corinthians 15:20 (NKJV)
20 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.
·         For the present, God wants your body to be the means that he uses to express the life of God within you to men.
The Major Reason You Are To Honor God With Your Body Is; “You Are Not Your Own.”
·         Your body is for the Lord
1 Corinthians 6:13 (NKJV)
13 Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods, but God will destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
·         Your Boy is the temple of the Holy “Spirit

1 Corinthians 6:19 (NKJV)
19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

John 14:23 (NKJV)
23 Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.
·         Your are not your own you were bought with a price
1 Corinthians 6:19 (NKJV)
19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
Look at Paul’s Teaching
·         Why would Paul say the following to a group of believers?
1 Corinthians 6:15-16 (NKJV)
15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not!
16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For "the two," He says, "shall become one flesh."
·         In Corinth, a city known for its worship of a pagan goddess of live; this goddess was worshiped by having sex with prostitutes in the Aphrodite temple.
1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (NKJV)
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,
10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.
·         God has purchased our bodies so we must present them as instruments for God’s use to change the lives of others.
2 Timothy 2:20-22 (NKJV)
20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor.
21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.
22 Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
2 Corinthians 7:1 (NKJV)
1 Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

1 John 1:7 (NKJV)
7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

1 John 1:9 (NKJV)
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Ephesians 5:26 (NKJV)
26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,
·         Offer your bodies a living sacrifice Holy and acceptable to God.
Romans 12:1 (NKJV)
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
·         We are not talking of a self-sacrificial act such as beating our back until the blood runs or crawling on our knees up steps until they are bloody.
·         It is a loving surrender.
·         Your body is just as God wanted you to be.  Be satisfied with your height, weight, color, size, etc.
·         How can you honor your God with your body if you are rejecting that body?
God Spoke To Moses:
Exodus 4:10-11 (NKJV)
10 Then Moses said to the Lord, "O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue."
11 So the Lord said to him, "Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord?
·         You are not the result of some mindless accident but you are just what God wanted for His purpose.  Don’t let society set the standard of what is beautiful and what is ugly.
Psalms 139:13-15 (NKJV)
13 For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb.
14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.
15 My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
·         When you look at your body with all its blemishes and say God your work is wonderful, you are honoring God with your body
Take Care Of Your Body
·         Many believers suffer from too much work, to little exercise, not enough rest, and we feed them too much.
·         We are not to pamper our bodies we must care for them since they are:
·         The temple of the Holy Ghost
·         And they belong to someone else.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NKJV)
19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.
