Spiritual Nourishment

The Meditation That We Will Discuss In This Lesson Has Nothing To Do With TM Or Transcendental Meditation.
·         Transcendental Meditation claims to be a scientific method of exploring the deepest levels of your own being, and find freedom form stress and peace of mind.
·         This is a deception.  It claims to be no religious, the mantras that are recited are prayers to Hindu gods, and the practice involves opening up oneself to spirits other than he Holy Spirit.
·         The meditation advocated in the bible does not focus on us but on God and His Word
Definition of Meditation: Hebrew word siyach  pronounced  See’akh: A contemplation; by inclination, an utterance, babbling, communication, complaint, meditation, prayer, talk.
Meditation Is The Major Means Of Our Spiritual Nourishment
·         As you can see biblical meditation involves not only silently thinking about the Word of God but talking discussing saying the scriptures out loud etc.
·         Our handling o the word of God involves
·         Hearing
·         Reading
·         Memorizing
·         Studying
·         And even singing the scriptures.
Joshua 1:8 (NKJV)
8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

Psalms 1:2 (NKJV)
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night.

Psalms 119:15 (NKJV)
15 I will meditate on Your precepts, And contemplate Your ways.

Psalms 119:23 (NKJV)
23 Princes also sit and speak against me, But Your servant meditates on Your statutes.

Psalms 119:48 (NKJV)
48 My hands also I will lift up to Your commandments, Which I love, And I will meditate on Your statutes.

Psalms 119:78 (NKJV)
78 Let the proud be ashamed, For they treated me wrongfully with falsehood; But I will meditate on Your precepts.

Psalms 119:97 (NKJV)
97 Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day.

Psalms 119:99 (NKJV)
99 I have more understanding than all my teachers, For Your testimonies are my meditation.

Psalms 119:148 (NKJV)
148 My eyes are awake through the night watches, That I may meditate on Your word.
Manna A Daily Occurrence Not Weekly, Monthly But Daily
·         God spoke to Israel in the desert of daily food to be gathered daily, he promised to supply “bread from heaven” but they must gather it.
·         This was a test of obedience a discipline; they must employ not weekly, monthly, but daily
Exodus 16:4 (NKJV)
4 Then the Lord said to Moses, "Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you. And the people shall go out and gather a certain quota every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in My law or not.

Exodus 16:19-20 (NKJV)
19 And Moses said, "Let no one leave any of it till morning."
20 Notwithstanding they did not heed Moses. But some of them left part of it until morning, and it bred worms and stank. And Moses was angry with them.
·         This is a picture of Christ and our feeding on the word of God daily.
John 6:32-35 (NKJV)
32 Then Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven.
33 For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."
34 Then they said to Him, "Lord, give us this bread always."
35 And Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.
·         If this was important for the survival of Israel it is equally so for us.
Deuteronomy 8:3 (NKJV)
3 So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.
·         There will be times when you will read the scriptures and not understand what you have read.  Since you have no understanding, no faith has been produced. If you will begin to meditate on those scriptures, understanding will come and with understanding comes faith.  Jesus says he that has ears to hear let him hear, and that faith comes from hearing or understanding. (Matt 11:15/Romans 10:17)
For A Practical/Physical Example We Must Take A Trip The Dairy Farm And Study The Word Rumination:
Definition of Rumination:  ( 1 : to go over in the mind repeatedly and often casually or slowly: to engage in contemplation a : concentration on spiritual things as a form of private devotion b : a state of mystical awareness of God's being 2 : to chew repeatedly for an extended period verb a : to chew again what has been chewed slightly and swallowed : chew the cud)
·         Cattle are ruminants, meaning that they have a digestive system that allows use of otherwise indigestible foods by repeatedly regurgitating and rechewing them as "cud". The cud is then reswallowed and further digested by specialised microorganisms in the rumen.  This process if uninterrupted will produce over time everything needed to sustain life.
Bible Study Vs Meditation
·         They over-lap but there is a distinction
·         Bible study is an intellectual exercise.  A mind or our intellectual ability yielded to God is valuable
·         But in meditation the human spirits is the major player, the mind is important but not primary in meditation we are to focus more on the human spirit and let God speak to us there.
Psalms 19:7 (NKJV)
7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;

1 Samuel 3:1-18 (NKJV)
1 Then the boy Samuel ministered to the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no widespread revelation.
2 And it came to pass at that time, while Eli was lying down in his place, and when his eyes had begun to grow so dim that he could not see,
3 and before the lamp of God went out in the tabernacle of the Lord where the ark of God was, and while Samuel was lying down,
4 that the Lord called Samuel. And he answered, "Here I am!"
5 So he ran to Eli and said, "Here I am, for you called me." And he said, "I did not call; lie down again." And he went and lay down.
6 Then the Lord called yet again, "Samuel!" So Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, "Here I am, for you called me." He answered, "I did not call, my son; lie down again."
7 (Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, nor was the word of the Lord yet revealed to him.)
8 And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. Then he arose and went to Eli, and said, "Here I am, for you did call me." Then Eli perceived that the Lord had called the boy.
9 Therefore Eli said to Samuel, "Go, lie down; and it shall be, if He calls you, that you must say, 'Speak, Lord, for Your servant hears.' " So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10 Now the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, "Samuel! Samuel!" And Samuel answered, "Speak, for Your servant hears."
11 Then the Lord said to Samuel: "Behold, I will do something in Israel at which both ears of everyone who hears it will tingle.
12 In that day I will perform against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from beginning to end.
13 For I have told him that I will judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knows, because his sons made themselves vile, and he did not restrain them.
14 And therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be atoned for by sacrifice or offering forever."
15 So Samuel lay down until morning, and opened the doors of the house of the Lord. And Samuel was afraid to tell Eli the vision.
16 Then Eli called Samuel and said, "Samuel, my son!" And he answered, "Here I am."
17 And he said, "What is the word that the Lord spoke to you? Please do not hide it from me. God do so to you, and more also, if you hide anything from me of all the things that He said to you."
18 Then Samuel told him everything, and hid nothing from him. And he said, "It is the Lord. Let Him do what seems good to Him."
The Process Of Meditation Consist Of Three Phases Which God Uses To Impart Truth, Apprehension, Assimilation, And Application
Apprehension
·         This phase involves spiritual understanding
Psalms 119:99 (NKJV)
99 I have more understanding than all my teachers, For Your testimonies are my meditation.

Matthew 13:4 (NKJV)
4 And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them.

Matthew 13:19 (NKJV)
19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside.

1 Corinthians 2:12 (NKJV)
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

1 Corinthians 2:14 (NKJV)
14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Assimilation
·         What we hear spiritually must be digested.
Psalms 63:5-6 (NKJV)
5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, And my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips.
6 When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches.

Colossians 3:16 (NKJV)
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Application
·         As we assimilate the word we must conform our life accordingly
Joshua 1:8 (NKJV)
8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
·         We must become doers as well as hearers and feeders (just readers).
James 1:23-25 (NKJV)
23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror;
24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.
25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
·         We are to let the Word of God convict and purge us where we have failed to obey
Psalms 39:2-3 (NKJV)
2 I was mute with silence, I held my peace even from good; And my sorrow was stirred up.
3 My heart was hot within me; While I was musing, the fire burned. Then I spoke with my tongue:
·         David heard God about his sin while he was meditating and didn’t repent.  Later we see him as he repented and got his heart right.
Psalms 39:7-11 (NKJV)
7 "And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You.
8 Deliver me from all my transgressions; Do not make me the reproach of the foolish.
9 I was mute, I did not open my mouth, Because it was You who did it.
10 Remove Your plague from me; I am consumed by the blow of Your hand.
11 When with rebukes You correct man for iniquity, You make his beauty melt away like a moth; Surely every man is vapor. Selah

5 No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.
Getting Started: If You Can’t Make Time To Add Meditation Separately From Your Daily Bible Reading Then Can You Quiet Easily Combine The Two?
·         First, ask God where He wants you to read and meditate.
·         Go to the scripture he puts in your mind, read it, then stop and turn it over in your mind.
·         He might take you to other verses or incidents,  just open your spirit and listen.  The two main words in Hebrew for meditate means to speak, commune or even mutter or talk to yourself or others.
·         This is not the first signs of madness.
Psalms 42:1-11 (NKJV)
1 To the Chief Musician. A Contemplation of the sons of Korah. As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God.
2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?
3 My tears have been my food day and night, While they continually say to me, "Where is your God?"
4 When I remember these things, I pour out my soul within me. For I used to go with the multitude; I went with them to the house of God, With the voice of joy and praise, With a multitude that kept a pilgrim feast.
5 Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him For the help of His countenance.
6 O my God, my soul is cast down within me; Therefore I will remember You from the land of the Jordan, And from the heights of Hermon, From the Hill Mizar.
7 Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls; All Your waves and billows have gone over me.
8 The Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime, And in the night His song shall be with me-- A prayer to the God of my life.
9 I will say to God my Rock, "Why have You forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?"
10 As with a breaking of my bones, My enemies reproach me, While they say to me all day long, "Where is your God?"
11 Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God.

Psalms 6:1-10 (NKJV)
1 To the Chief Musician. With stringed instruments. On an eight-stringed harp. A Psalm of David. O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your anger, Nor chasten me in Your hot displeasure.
2 Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am weak; O Lord, heal me, for my bones are troubled.
3 My soul also is greatly troubled; But You, O Lord--how long?
4 Return, O Lord, deliver me! Oh, save me for Your mercies' sake!
5 For in death there is no remembrance of You; In the grave who will give You thanks?
6 I am weary with my groaning; All night I make my bed swim; I drench my couch with my tears.
7 My eye wastes away because of grief; It grows old because of all my enemies.
8 Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity; For the Lord has heard the voice of my weeping.
9 The Lord has heard my supplication; The Lord will receive my prayer.
10 Let all my enemies be ashamed and greatly troubled; Let them turn back and be ashamed suddenly.

Judges 1:8 (NKJV)
8 Now the children of Judah fought against Jerusalem and took it; they struck it with the edge of the sword and set the city on fire.

Psalms 19:14 (NKJV)
14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.
Even as God’s revelation reaches your heart doesn’t mean that your mind will retain it so.
 Write it down
